The Status, Problems and Solutions of Korean Optometrist(Optician)

Abstract
Purpose: We have study on the current status, problems related system and various solutions of Korean Optometry (Optician) according to the school-age population decline.

Methods: The data from academyinfo site, KRIVET site, Education Statistics site and inquiries, press release from Ministry of Education and of Health & Welfare were analyzed.

Results: Accordingly declined school-age population, the Department of Ophthalmic Optics admission resources is decreasing, many universities are struggling to recruit students. Optometrist (Optician) of the working conditions are not good. In order to raise awareness as a stable job, the working condition of Optometrist (Optician) must improve, a variety of workplace is required.

Conclusion: A quota of the Department of Ophthalmic Optics is oversupply, therefore the education system is a unified and reduced the total quota. We need to expand the functional areas of optometrist (optician).
